Komodo Dragons Kill Indonesian Fisherman

Well guess what ... I've just found a good reason not to hike in remote places. I just read that komodo dragons killed a fisherman in Indonesia. The poor guy was mauled while looking for sugar apples and then bled to death on his way to hospital. I never thought that these animals could be that dangerous, especially because they look rather slow. How wrong could I be? According to CNN these beasts can grow up to 3 meters and still leap at you as fast as a dog. As if this wasn't enough, their bite is also toxic enough to kill animals as big as buffalos. Although these incidents seem to be rare, this is not the only one. According to CNN, last month a park ranger wasn't too happy finding a Komodo eating away at his hand and foot and in 2007 a young boy died from an attack.

  1. There was also an apparently good reason why the "No Trespassing" zone was established. This individual decided to ignore it in order to steal some fruit - I don't think it was worth it....

The animal was just protecting what he, or she, saw as their own territory. Humans must take some responsibility for their own mistakes. Yes?
